SK-OV-3 cell line was isolated from the ascites of an ovarian tumor patient by G. Trempe and L. J. Old in 1973. SK-OV-3 cells are resistant to tumor necrosis factor and several cytotoxic drugs, including diphtheria toxin, cisplatin, and adriamycin. SK-OV-3 cells are tumorigenic in nude mice and form moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma consistent with ovarian carcinoma in situ.
