BV-2 cell line was established by E. Blasi in 1990; it is immortalized by retroviral-mediated transfection of v-raf/v-myc into mouse microglia. BV-2 cells retain various morphological, phenotypic, and functional characteristics of microglia; immunohistochemical results show that BV-2 cells are positive for MAC1 and MAC2; while they are negative for MAC3, glial fibrillary acidic protein, and galactocerebroside.
