A mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) patient exhibited a giant cell variant indicative of leukemia transformation. Based on their peripheral blood mononuclear cells, an MCL cell line, JeKo-1, was established. JeKo-1 cells are Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) negative and express an IgM of B-cell phenotype. JeKo-1 cells overexpress cyclin D1, Bcl-2, c-Myc, and Rb proteins. The Bcl-1/J(H) gene rearrangement was confirmed by PCR, and JeKo-1 cells exhibited high tumorigenicity in severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice.
