K562

K-562 was established by Lozzio from the pleural fluid of a terminally ill 53-year-old female patient with chronic myelogenous leukemia. K-562 cells are classified as highly undifferentiated granulocytic leukemic cells. Erson et al.'s study on the surface membrane properties of K-562 cells indicated that they are a strain of human erythroleukemic cells. K-562 cells are widely used as highly sensitive in vitro receptors in natural killer (NK) cell analysis. See Pross et al. utilized K-562 cells for detailed in vitro detection of NK cells, including mathematical quantification of NK cell activity. K-562 blast cells are pluripotent hematopoietic malignant cells that can spontaneously differentiate into recognizable erythroid progenitor cells, granulocytic leukocytes, monocytes, etc. K-562 cells are Epstein-Barr virus nuclear antigen (EBNA)-negative.
