786-O cell line originated from a primary clear cell carcinoma; 786-O cells possess microvilli and desmosomes, and are capable of growing in soft agar. A PTH-like polypeptide produced by 786-O cells bears similarities to peptides found in breast and lung cancers. The N-terminal sequence of this polypeptide resembles PTH, exhibits PTH-like activity, and has a molecular weight of 6000 Dalton.
