OVCAR3 cell line was established by T. C. Hamilton in 1982. This cell line was derived from malignant ascites of a patient with progressive ovarian adenocarcinoma. OVCAR3 cells serve as a suitable model system for studying drug resistance in ovarian cancer. Additionally, due to the presence of hormone receptors, they may be useful for evaluating hormone therapy.
